Short Hair Styles & Face ShapesIf you are looking to change your hair style and go from long to short, you need to be careful as not all styles go with specific face shapes. When you are looking for a short hair style, there is no turning back. You cannot change it again until it grows out so you have to be sure you are not picking the wrong style. Here are a few helpful tips for each face shape and what style of short hair will fit you best.

Round faces are probably the most difficult for short hair to work with. If you have a round face, you want to try to elongate the look and that is very difficult with short hair. Ideally, your hair should at the very least be slightly longer than your chin. That being the case, you may want to go with a longer bob look. You will however want to avoid a cut that is too straight or too curly. Try adding some soft waves just past your ear level for the best effect.

A square shaped face is best for the spiky look. You will want do downplay your jaw line and this cut will do that. You will want to avoid bobs and bangs at all costs because these styles of hair cuts will actually enhance the square shape of your face that you are trying to get away from.

If you have a heart shaped faced (triangular), you will want to try and enhance your eyes and cheekbones. The best bet for you is to utilize long side swept bangs or even possibly a fringe that will just graze your brow.

Long shaped faces will want to try and make their faces look wider. You can do this in several different ways. You can have a chin length bob or softly layer the hair. You can also go with curls and a side swept bang look. The side swept bangs will draw attention away from your forehead and create the illusion of a wider face. You do not want to get any type of cut that will add height to your hair as it will do exactly the opposite of what you are trying to achieve by making your face look even longer than it already is.

An oval faced shape creates the most flexibility when looking to go short. With this type of face, you can pretty much do anything you want with your hair. The most attractive look however, would be to do a short pixie cut with soft fringes. You can choose to keep it straight, curly or even go for the spiky look. You will want to make sure you keep up with the short cut though as longer hair on this style of face will elongate it give you the appearance of having a long face.

While not all face shapes allow a lot of flexibility for short hair, there is an option available for everyone. As we stated earlier, make sure you are positive with the style that you want to go with as you will have to grow it out again before you are able to change it. There are plenty of website available for you to download a picture of yourself and play with the different styles. I would definitely do this before moving forward with a drastic change.
